China's first deep-sea floating megawatt wave energy power generation platform has been launched

news-details

Last month, the 1MW wave energy power generation platform that China Classification Society (CCS) provided classification and conformity survey service for China Southern Power Grid Guangdong Power Grid Co., Ltd had its grand launching ceremony at the Dongjiangkou plant of Guangdong COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry Co., Ltd. This ceremony held on site and also delivered a live broadcast. Mr. Li Qingfen – director of classification division of CCS Guangzhou Branch was invited to the celebration..

The platform was developed by the Guangzhou Institute of Energy Conversion, Chinese Academy of Sciences,  it was designed and built in accordance with relevant standards and CCS’s ã€ŠCode for Classification of Offshore Mobile Platforms》(2020) . It has a total length of 80 metres, a width of 88 metres, an operating draft of 13.5 metres and a displacement of 15,000 tonnes. This platform is a CSA Column Stabilized floating unit, awards PM class notation, it comes with advantages of superior design, stable structure, green environmental protection, and features of easy operation.

The platform is welded with a steel structure, using AH36/DH36 high-strength steel plates, meeting requirement of the working environment between 0~45°C, applicable water depth between 30~100 metres in the sea, and the structural strength meets requirements of 3-D finite element analysis allowable stress and buckling performance. Moreover, the platform adopts a triangular vertical and horizontal frame structure, which is composed of ballast tanks and pump rooms at the bottom, middle column cabins and pipeline channels, and equipment cabins at the top, trad anchors is completed with the ‘six point rule’.

The project is expected to generate 24,000 kilowatt-hours of power per day, meeting the green electricity demands of about 3,500 households. Its presence provides a large "sea power bank" to remote islands.

The launching of the platform also marks that the megawatt wave energy generation technology has a new stage of development from theoretical research to engineering practice, and it will further optimize the key technology of China’s ocean wave power generation as well as improve the green power supply capacity to remote islands.

Under the witness of Mr. Li Mingjun, the person in charge of the Megawatt wave energy device project and deputy general manager of Guangdong Power Grid Corporation, Mr. Li Qingfen issued a launch certificate to the construction plant and stated that CCS will continue to collaborate with all parties, strengthen communication and cooperation, continue to provide active, comprehensive, efficient, high-quality technical support services, and purposely ensure a successful completion of the project.
